WELCOME

My name is Colin Banfield and I have lived in Cape Town all my life …

… not a bad place to be !

I enjoy my family, mountains (and creation), playing percussion, fiddling with the guitar and seeing God at work despite me.

MY FAMILY:

My family and I live in Durbanville, about 30Km North East of the City, on the edge of farm land and a wine route.

Allison works for Durbanville Community Church as the administrator and manages me.
Jason works as a web application programmer, plays guitar and is a student of Wing Tjun.
Erin has matriculated and is taking a gap year as a teacher’s assistant, is arty, plays guitar and handles life in her own way.

MY WORK:

After working in electronics and programming I studied theology in the late 80′s (and haven’t stopped).

I have worked at 4 churches within a mainline denomination since 1990 as a Pastor and later as a mission coordinator.

My main ministries were teaching in these churches and mobilising people and churches  into mission by providing local experience and training as well as short-term opportunities in Southern Africa, especially Mozambique and Namibia.

At the end of 2009 I resigned from the denomination to work amongst the wider church and found a home within the Crowded House Church planting Network

Locally I am ministering under the name Intentional Encounters (please follow the link) which some friends helped me start …

… and as such we are the South Africa/Africa coordinators of the UK based Porterbrook Theological Distance Learning for Missional Leaders.

As a new ministry in South Africa we have chosen to be connected with the locally based Kingfisher Mobalisation Centre in Bellville near Cape Town.  Kingfisher have been encouraging missional church development for over a decade and are now in many countries around the world.  They are offering us fellowship and encouragement as we build into one another’s ministries.

MY STUDIES:

My post Graduate work has been mainly in Missiology, researching ‘Missional Ecclesiology’, Church planting, and Pauline Theology (although 1 Peter has probably been my passion).

MOST OF MY DAY:

I spend most of my days assisting Churches to be more missional, connecting people, coaching leaders, offering theological and leadership equipping as well as developing a Gospel Community of our own and assisting in a church plant.

WHEN THE DAY IS DONE:

… is a line from a Nick Drake song.  It continues ‘… down to earth then sinks the sun, along with everything that’s lost or won, when the day is done…’
